Why did my portfolio go down?

The value of your portfolio is based on the value of the underlying assets held inside it (stocks and ETFs). The value of the portfolio is the sum of the value of all assets in the portfolio. It is very normal for your portfolio to experience both ups and downs. Stocks and ETFs can change in value for many reasons. Common reasons include:

  • Decline in popularity
  • New technology renders products/service obsolete
  • Demand for the company’s product declines
  • The overall market declines
