Why was more money taken from my Spend Control than I spent?

There are a few instances when you may see a pending transaction amount that is higher than the amount you spent. This is due to an up-charge, or hold, that some retailers put on your card for certain transactions.

For the following types of transactions, you may see a pending transaction amount that is a percentage higher than the total you spent, until the retailer settles your final bill, which usually happens by midnight on the day of purchase.

  • Restaurants that accept tips/gratuity: 10-20% up-charge
  • Hotels: 20% up-charge
  • Rental Cars: 15% up-charge
  • Pay-at-the-pump gas: $1-100 hold amount

*Please note, hotels and rental car companies often hold money longer than 24 hours, and it may take up to 30 days for them to release their hold on your funds*
