What Is Online Identity Protection (Dark Web Monitoring) and How Does It Work?

What is Online Identity Protection?

Online Identity Protection (also called dark web monitoring) helps monitor your personal information and alert you if it appears in places it shouldn’t — such as data breaches or online exposure.

This feature scans for certain types of personal information and notifies you if that information is found on the dark web.

What information is monitored?

Online Identity Protection can monitor the following types of information:

  • First name and last name
  • Mailing address
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Passport number
  • Credit card number
  • Bank account number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Medical ID

Next to each type of monitored information in the app, you’ll see how many pieces of that information are currently being tracked.

Who Can Enroll in Online Identity Protection?

The following family members can be enrolled:

  • Primary Accountholders
  • Approvers
  • Older adults
  • Children

For children, Online Identity Protection is managed by the Primary Accountholder. Children won’t see this feature in their app, but the Primary can activate monitoring and review alerts on their behalf.
