Why is my Greenlight card locked or frozen?

If your Greenlight card is locked or frozen, it usually means there’s a quick fix. In most cases, the card can be unlocked right in the app or will automatically reactivate once an issue is resolved.

Below are the most common reasons your Greenlight card may be locked and what you can do next!

Check if the card is locked in the Greenlight app

Greenlight cards can be locked directly in the app by the parent or primary account holder. This is often used as a quick way to pause spending.

If your card was locked in the app, you can simply unlock it.

The account may have missed two monthly payments

If two monthly payments in a row are missed, the cardholder cards on the account will be temporarily frozen.

Don’t worry — once the outstanding balance is paid, the cards will be automatically reactivated and ready to use again.

If you believe this may be the reason, check your account billing details in the app to make sure the balance has been paid.

Greenlight may temporarily freeze a card for security reasons

In some cases, Greenlight may temporarily lock or freeze a card as a security precaution if we detect unusual activity or need to verify account information.
