What types of lists are available?
Standard To-Do lists — great for tasks, errands, and anything your household needs to track.
Grocery lists — built for shopping. Items can be automatically grouped by store section (Produce, Dairy, Bakery, and more), so your list is organized the way your store is laid out!
Both types live on your Family Hub's Lists page in the navigation bar. You can scroll left and right to view all of your family’s current lists.
How do I create a list?
- On your Hub, tap the Lists page
from the navigation bar
- Tap "+"
- Give your list a name
- Choose a type: "Standard" or "Grocery"
- "Grocery" lists will give you the option to have your items organized by aisle or not
- Pick a color — you'll need to choose one before saving (Red, Orange, Yellow, Lime, Green, Teal, Blue, Purple, Pink, or Grey)
- Choose whether you’d like items to continue to show in your list once they’ve been checked off (completed)
- Tap "Create list"
Your new list appears on the Lists page right away, visible to everyone in your family!
How do I add items to a list?
There are two ways to add items — you can pick whichever fits the moment.
Quick add (name only)
At the bottom of any list, tap the "Add item..." field, type your item, and tap the green send arrow. The item will appear right away on your list ready to be checked off! This is the fastest option when you just want to add something quickly.
Full details
- Tap the "+" button next to the list’s title to open the screen to fill in more details related to that item:
- Item name (required)
- List — you can also switch to a different list from here to add the item there instead
- Section (Grocery lists only) — choose the store aisle, or let the AI place it automatically
- Due date — this detail is optional, but it can be helpful for tracking tasks/listing items that need to be completed or purchased by a certain date
- Tap "Save" when you're done
How does grocery list organization work?
Grocery lists have an "Organize by aisle" feature that automatically groups items by the section in the store you’d find them in as you add them to your list. Add "Milk" and it lands under “Dairy, Eggs & Cheese”. Add "Broccoli" and it lands in “Produce”. This feature is turned on by default when you create a Grocery list.
Good to know: If the AI assistant puts something in the wrong section, you can move it manually — and once you've set it by hand, the assistant won't override your choice again.
How do I turn "Organize by aisle" on or off?
You can change this setting at any time:
- Tap the "..." menu on the list you’d like to edit
- Toggle "Organize by aisle" on or off
- Tap "Save"
When this feature is toggled off, all of your items will just appear as a flat list, the same way items present on a Standard list.
How do I check items off?
Tap the checkbox next to any item to mark it done. By default, completed items disappear from view to keep your list looking clean with only what’s left! Not to worry, the checked off items from your list weren’t deleted — you can adjust your lists’ settings to unhide your checked off items.
How do I see checked off items again?
Completed items on your lists will be hidden by default but you can make them visible again by following the steps below!
- Tap the "..." menu next to the list’s title
- Turn the "Show completed" toggle to ON
- Tap "Save"
Completed items will appear at the bottom of the list and you can tap any of them to uncheck and move them back to a remaining status!
How do overdue items appear on my lists?
If you choose to set a “Due” date for an item on your list, any overdue items will stand out so nothing gets missed! These items will show in red with an "Overdue" label.
How do I edit an item or move it to a different list?
- Tap the item on the list to open its details
- Update the name, due date, or the item’s List placement as needed to move it to a different list
- Tap "Save"
How do I delete an item?
- Tap the item from the list to open it
- Tap "Delete" at the bottom
How do I edit a list's name, color, or settings?
- Tap the "..." menu on the list you’d like to edit
- Update the name, color, list type, or any toggle settings
- Tap "Save"
How do I delete a list?
- Tap the "..." menu on the list
- Tap "Delete" at the bottom
- Confirm you’d like to delete the list and tap "Delete"
The list and everything in it will be permanently removed — this can't be undone.
Can the AI assistant help with lists?
Yes! With Family Hub Plus, you can add items to your lists using your voice.
- "Hey Greenlight, add eggs to the grocery list"
- "Hey Greenlight, what's on the to-do list?"

Can I use lists when my Family Hub is offline?
Your lists are still visible when your Family Hub is offline, but you won't be able to add new items or create lists without a Wi-Fi connection. Changes made in the Greenlight app while offline will sync to your Family Hub once you're reconnected!
