Greenlight doesn't currently support depositing paper checks directly onto our platform, whether through the app, a scanning feature, or via mail. However, if you have a check you'd like to turn into money for a cardholder on your account, there are a few easy ways to get those funds where they need to go instead!
How can I add money to Greenlight instead of depositing a check?
Depending on where the check is coming from, one of these three options will get the funds into your Greenlight account.
Set up direct deposit
If your child receives paychecks from an employer, direct deposit is the easiest long-term option. Once it's set up, their paycheck lands in their Greenlight account automatically — no check involved at all!
Important: Greenlight only accepts direct deposit from a child's employer. Direct deposits from other sources, like a relative or a government benefit, aren't supported.

Use Paylink to send or receive money
If someone wants to give your child a one-time gift or reimbursement instead of writing a check, Paylink lets them send that money straight into your child's Greenlight account!
Tip: Paylink works well for birthday money, allowance from grandparents, or splitting costs with another parent. No check or bank info required.

Deposit the check into your bank account, then add the funds to your Greenlight Wallet
If you already have a check in hand, you can deposit it into your own linked funding account the usual way through your bank's app, an ATM, or in person. Once the funds land there, you can move them into your Greenlight Wallet, which is what funds your family's Greenlight debit cards!
On your mobile device? Follow the link below to pull up your Greenlight Wallet in your app: greenlightme://accounts/wallet
- Open the Greenlight app
- Locate the Greenlight Wallet on your Home Dashboard and tap "Add $"
- Choose an amount from the preset options, or tap "Other" to enter your own
- Select the bank account you deposited the check into as your funding source
- Tap "Add" to complete the transfer
- If you're funding from a bank account, the transfer is usually instant, but it can take 3-4 business days depending on your bank
Important: Only the Primary Accountholder or an Authorized Approver can add money to the Greenlight Wallet. Cardholders can't fund their own accounts.
