How do I transfer money out of my Greenlight account?
Only the Primary Accountholder can transfer funds out of Greenlight to a linked bank account. Transfers to a bank account that is not linked to your Greenlight Wallet cannot be made. There’s no fee for transferring money from Greenlight to your bank.
Funds may take up to five business days after loading before they become available for transfer. Once you initiate a transfer, it can’t be undone. Transfers typically process within 1–3 business days, depending on your financial institution.
You can transfer money from your Greenlight Wallet to your bank account two ways:
From your home dashboard:
- Locate your Greenlight Wallet.
- Tap the three dots next to it.
- Tap “Transfer to bank account.”
- Enter the amount and tap “Next.”
- Confirm your bank account and tap “Transfer.”
From the “Accounts” tab:
- Tap the Accounts tab at the bottom of your app.
- Under Your Accounts, select Greenlight Wallet.
- Tap “Transfer to bank account.”
- Enter the amount and tap “Next.”
- Confirm your bank destination and select “Transfer.”
Once complete, you’ll return to your home dashboard and see a notification confirming the transfer. The funds will be deducted from your Greenlight Wallet immediately and appear as a “Transfer” line item in your Greenlight Wallet “History”.
Why isn’t my full balance available to transfer?
Your “Available to transfer” amount depends on:
- Your current Greenlight Wallet balance.
-
Any pending deposits that are still clearing
- While these funds may be available immediately for things like moving money to a child, they are not available to transfer out for up to 5 business days.
-
Account-specific limits.
-
Greenlight imposes account-specific limits based on different factors, such as your account history and activity. We cannot disclose these limits due to Risk and Compliance reasons, but as you continue to use the Greenlight app, your transfer limits will increase

If your "Available to transfer" amount does not match your Greenlight Wallet balance, it’s most likely due to pending deposits or your specific account limits.
I have money in my Greenlight Wallet. Why do I see $0 available to transfer?
If you see $0 available to transfer, it’s most likely because your bank account is not yet eligible for transfers out of the Greenlight Wallet. Your linked and verified bank account will be eligible for transfers after you’ve previously loaded funds from it without any disputes, and all of those deposits have settled.
Why haven’t my funds arrived in my bank account?
Transfers from your Greenlight Wallet to a linked bank account usually take 1–3 business days. This type of transfer (known as an ACH transfer) involves several parties, which can delay the transfer.
If you don’t see your funds after three business days, please contact your bank to confirm the status of your transfer and account.
What happens to funds after my account is closed?
If you have closed your Greenlight account but there’s still money left in the Greenlight Wallet, we will always attempt to refund those funds back to you!
If we’re unable to refund them back to you directly for any reason, we’re required by law to send those funds to your state’s unclaimed property office. This is called escheatment, and it’s a standard process to keep your money safe. Read more on the escheatment process here.
