What are account monitoring alerts and how can I manage them?

What are account monitoring alerts?

Account monitoring alerts are helpful notifications you can personalize to help you monitor unusual activity on your linked accounts. Each linked account can have its own unique alert settings. Below is a list of alerts that can be enabled, disabled, and adjusted to best suit you and your family’s needs!

    • Unusual activity
    • Additional transaction alerts
      • Transaction frequency
      • Transaction amount
      • Transaction type
    • Account insights
        • Low balance
    • Transaction rules

How do I manage the account monitoring alerts?

Family members with a linked account for account monitoring can set up the alerts they would like to enable for their accounts. Depending on the permissions enabled for each user’s monitored account, you can also adjust which alerts you would like to receive for that user’s accounts from your app! You can manage the monitored account’s alerts by:

    1. Tap the profile of the user whose monitored accounts you’d like to view
    2. Tap “Settings” next to their “Account Monitoring” section
    3. Tap “Monitoring alerts
    4. Enable, disable, and adjust the alert settings that you would like to receive for that monitored account.

Can I create custom rules for my family’s monitored accounts’ alerts?

Yes! If you notice that the authorized spending habits of you or a family member's monitored account are triggering alerts that you would like to edit so that the alerts you do receive are more applicable to that account owner, you can create a custom rule for large transaction amount, payment app transactions, wire transfers, and unusual activity alerts!

You will have the opportunity to create a custom rule when reviewing an alert for a monitored account:

    1. Tap on the alert that you would like to review
    2. Tap “No” for “Is this activity suspicious?”
    3. Tap the link for “Adjust alert notifications
    4. Enter in the threshold amount that you would no longer like to see transactions for below this amount
      • Please keep in mind that each custom rule will be relevant to that specific merchant so you will have to add additional custom rules to adjust the threshold limits for different merchants as those alerts pop-up
    5. Tap “Save this rule

Once a custom rule is created it is important to keep in mind:

    • Rules are user-specific so creating a rule affects only that user’s alerts—not other family members monitoring the same accounts.
    • If a future transaction matches the same merchant name and is below the rule’s set amount, no alert will be triggered for the family member who created the rule.
    • Custom rules apply across all accounts (credit, checking, etc.) for that family member.
    • Custom rules are an exact-match only which means the merchant name must match exactly for what is set in the custom rule. This means that a similar transaction can still trigger an alert.

How can I edit my custom rules?

    1. Navigate to the “Account monitoring alerts” section for that monitored account
    2. Tap “Transaction rules
    3. Tap on the rule that you would like to edit
    4. Here you can adjust the threshold amount for that custom rule and tap “Save this rule

Or, tap “Delete this rule” to remove the rule

How will I be notified of an account monitoring alert?

If an alert is triggered for a monitored account, any user with the permissions to the monitored account will receive:

    • A push notification to their device, notifying them of the detected account activity
    • A notification on the Monitored Accounts section of the user's dashboard
    • A notification in the "Notifications" section on the "Home" dashboard for all users who receive the alert

What should I do after I receive a monitored account alert?

If you receive an alert for activity on a monitored account, it's important to always review each alert to ensure you take the proper next steps to keep the account secure.

Once you have accessed the alert from your Greenlight app, you can tap on the "Review" button next to the alert to see more details.

While reviewing account alerts, you can mark each alert as "Suspicious" or "Unsuspicious" to be walked through how to remediate that alert’s concern if needed.

If you mark an alert as suspicious, you will be provided with "Recommended next steps" for that alert. After you have reviewed the alert and addressed any concerns, you can tap "Mark resolved" for that alert to remove it from the account’s notifications.

If you notice that the alerts you’re receiving for your monitored account aren’t helpful or inaccurate, please feel free to respond to the ‘Was this alert helpful?’ section so that your alerts can be better tailored for your family!

You can also adjust your alert settings from within the alert review experience by clicking on “Manage alerts”.

Why is my monitored account showing a “Connection error”?

If you see a "Connection Error" notification on your monitored account, it just means the app has temporarily lost connection with that account. No worries! Just tap "Reconnect" and follow the steps to re-authenticate the account to get things re-connected and continue monitoring your account.
