How do I add or remove a child from my Greenlight account?

Families grow and change and your Greenlight account can grow and change right along with you! Primary Accountholders can add or remove children from their Greenlight account at any time. Here’s how each process works.

How do I add a child to my account?

Only the Primary Accountholder can add a child.

To add a child:

  1. Tap the Settings gear in the top right corner of your Home dashboard
  2. Tap “My family & devices”
  3. Tap “Add a child or teen”
  4. Enter in the required information for their account
  5. Tap “Add Child
  6. Once your child has been added, we’ll begin creating their Greenlight card and you should receive it within 7–10 business days

You can also choose to invite your child to download the Greenlight app on their own device so they can access their version of the app and manage their money independently. If you’d rather set that up later or skip it completely, that’s totally fine!

Please note: The standard card sent after adding a child is not a Custom Card. If you’d like a Custom Card, it must be ordered separately.

How do I remove a child from my account?

Before removing a child from your account, you’ll need to complete a few steps to make sure any remaining funds and investments are properly taken care of.

To remove a child:

  1. Sell any investments in the child’s account (if applicable). You can follow the steps in our article on how to sell investments
  2. Transfer all remaining funds from the child’s profile to your Greenlight Wallet. You can follow the steps in our article on how to move their funds
  3. Once investments are sold and funds are transferred, submit the child removal request form

After you submit the form, our Support team will take care of the rest — including canceling the child’s card and completely removing their profile from your account.
