Want to prevent your child or older adult from spending at a specific store or merchant? You can block their spending by adjusting that store’s Spend Control settings! Follow the steps below to see how.
- Navigate to the cardholder’s Dashboard from your app
- Tap on the “Spending” tile
- Scroll down to “Spend Controls”
- Tap "+ Add a Spend Control"
- Search for the name of the physical or online store in the search bar and click on the store once you find it
- Turn OFF the toggle for “Pull overages from Category Controls or Spend Anywhere”
- This makes sure that if there’s no money in the specific spend control, Greenlight won’t pull extra funds from other Spend Controls to cover the purchase
- Tap “Add Spend Control”
- Make sure the listed dollar amount is always set to $0.00 for that spend control
Once you’ve made these changes, any transactions that fall into that store or merchant category will be declined!
Important to Know
- Merchant blocking works at the merchant category level. If a transaction is processed under a different merchant classification, it may not fall under the intended blocked Spend Control
- If you’d like to allow spending again in the future, simply add funds to the Spend Control or turn “Pull overages from Category Controls or Spend Anywhere” back on!
Repeated unauthorized charges?
If you’re seeing repeated unauthorized transactions, blocking the merchant may not be enough!
For additional protection, you may want to order a replacement card instead. Replacing the card as “Lost” or “Stolen” will issue a new card with a new card number, which can help prevent further unauthorized activity.
