Screensaver mode is your Family Hub's built-in screensaver — it transforms your Family Hub into a beautiful smart display when it's not in active use, showing your family photos, the time, today's weather, and even upcoming calendar events! It's designed to feel like a natural, welcoming part of your home.

How does my Family Hub enter Screensaver mode?
There are two ways screensaver mode activates.
Automatically — after your Family Hub hasn't been used for a set period of time, it transitions into screensaver mode on its own.
Manually — tap the Greenlight logo icon at the top of your Family Hub’s navigation bar at any time to switch to screensaver mode instantly, no waiting required.
To exit, tap anywhere on the screen. Your Hub returns immediately to whatever you were looking at before — no fade, no delay.
What does Screensaver mode show?
When screensaver mode is active, your Family Hub has the ability to display:
Your photos or a preset wallpaper — your family photos can play as a slideshow in the background, or you can choose one of the preset wallpapers if you haven't added photos yet
The time, date, and weather — displayed in a large, easy-to-read font in the left column of your Hub screen.
Upcoming calendar events — if you have a calendar(s) synced and you have events scheduled for today, those will appear below the time on your screensaver as well. Tap the events list once to expand it and see each event's title, time, and location. Tap a specific event to open it directly in your calendar!
How do I customize Screensaver mode?
Screensaver mode settings are in Settings > Screen Saver on your Hub — anyone in the family can adjust them, no PIN needed.
- On your Hub, tap the settings gear icon in the navigation bar
- Tap "Screen Saver"
From here, you can adjust the following:
How long before it activates?
Under "Timeout period," choose how long your Hub waits before entering Screen Saver mode:
- 30 seconds
- 1 minute
- 5 minutes
- 10 minutes
- Never (keeps Screen Saver mode off)
What background does it show?
Under "Wallpaper," choose between:
- Our Wallpapers — three curated presets: Moor (earthy landscape), Harvest (warm autumn tones), or Tide (calming coastal)
- Your Photos — your family photos play as a slideshow
What's shown on screen?
Two toggles let you control what appears alongside your photos — both are on by default:
- "Upcoming calendar events" — turn this off to hide the calendar events panel
- "Time, date & weather" — turn this off to hide the clock and weather
Turn both off and your Family Hub becomes a simple, clean photo frame!
How do I customize the photo slideshow?
Slideshow settings — like photo speed, ordering, and format — are configured in the Photos section on your Hub. Tap "Slideshow settings" in the Screen Saver tab to go there directly. For a full list of what you can adjust, check out this article!
Weather display
Screensaver mode shows current weather conditions based on your home location, pulled from the address you entered when setting up your Greenlight account. The weather refreshes every 30 minutes.
If the weather looks off, check the address that is currently associated with your account from your Greenlight app to make sure that the location is accurate:
- From your Greenlight app, tap the settings gear
- Tap “Personal information””
- Tap “Primary address”
- Verify your account
- Review the current address we have on file for you and update your address as needed
- Tap “Save”
What if I haven't added photos yet?
No problem — Screen Saver mode still works beautifully! Your Hub will display one of the three preset wallpapers as the background, along with the time, weather, and any calendar events for today. You can set up photos anytime — visit How do Photos work on Greenlight Family Hub?to get started.
Does Screensaver mode affect battery life?
For the 10.1-inch model (which can run on battery), keeping the screen on in Screen Saver mode will use battery over time. To conserve battery, set the timeout to a longer interval or keep the Hub plugged in during the times you want Screen Saver mode running.
The 15.6-inch model stays plugged in at all times, so battery life isn't a concern!
