What data is stored on your Family Hub?

Your Family Hub stores the following information locally on the device:

  • A local cache of family photos (up to approximately 10 GB)
  • Family Hub settings and preferences
  • Authentication tokens that connect your Hub to your Greenlight account

A factory reset erases all local data on the device — only the copy stored on your Family Hub is removed. Your Greenlight account, cloud data, and all associated content are not affected and will be fully accessible when you sign in on a new or reset device. For more information of factory resetting your device, click here.

What data is stored in Greenlight's cloud?

Your Greenlight account data including, calendar events, chores, lists, stars, photos, and family profiles, is stored securely in Greenlight's cloud. This data stays with your account even if your Hub is reset or replaced.

Is my family's data shared with third parties?

Greenlight does not share your family's data with third parties for any marketing purposes. Data is only used to operate and improve the product — things like powering the calendar, chores, lists, and AI assistant features your family uses every day.

What location data does Greenlight store?

When family location sharing is enabled, the Greenlight app and Hub display the real-time location of family members who have opted in. Location data is used to power the Safety Map and place alerts, and is only visible to members of your family account.

Location sharing is opt-in and can be turned on or off at any time from your Greenlight app. For more on managing location settings, visit How do I manage location sharing settings for a family member?

How does Greenlight handle AI assistant audio?

When you use the AI assistant, only a text transcript of the conversation is saved — no audio recording is stored. Audio is never transmitted before the “Hey Greenlight” wake word is detected on the device.

Conversation data is not used to train AI models. It may be used to improve product features and performance, but is never shared outside of Greenlight. Click here to learn more.

What happens to device data if I return or replace the device?

Once you return your Family Hub device to us, our team will complete a full factory reset of your device to clear it of all data. If you’d like to factory reset your device yourself before returning it, you’re more than welcome to do so!

What happens to my data if I cancel my subscription?

If you cancel your Family Hub subscription, your device will be factory reset, removing all locally stored data and you will be downgraded to our free Family Hub plan if you would like to keep using your Family Hub.

Your Greenlight account data stored in the cloud — including photos, calendars, and family profiles — is not affected by cancelling your subscription.
