How does the Calendar work in the Greenlight app?

Connecting your existing calendars to Greenlight is one of the best ways to keep your whole family in sync — no more missed pickups or forgotten appointments! Connect your Google, Outlook, or iCloud calendars and everything shows up in one shared view, all from the Greenlight app.

Have a Family Hub? You can also view your family calendar on the Hub's full-screen display. See: How does the Calendar work on Greenlight Family Hub?

How to access Calendar

The Calendar is available in the Greenlight app under the More tab: More > Calendar

How to connect your calendar

You can connect Google, Outlook, iCloud, or Webcal calendars. For specific steps by calendar type, see the sections below — or follow these general steps to get started:

  1. In the Greenlight app, go to the "More" dashboard and tap "Calendar"
  2. Tap the Settings gear
  3. Select the calendar account you’d like to add and follow the steps for that calendar

Once connected, your calendar events will sync automatically and appear in the family calendar — no manual updating needed!

How to manually sync your calendar

If a new event isn't showing up yet, you can trigger a manual sync:

  1. In the Greenlight app, go to the "More" dashboard and tap "Calendar"
  2. Tap the Settings gear
  3. Tap the round arrow (sync) icon

Your calendar will refresh right away.

Connecting a Google calendar

  1. In the Greenlight app, go to the "More" dashboard and tap "Calendar"
  2. Tap the Settings gear
  3. Tap Google
  4. A code will appear on screen — copy it
  5. Tap "Sign in" to open Google's sign-in page
  6. Sign in with your Google account and enter the code when prompted
  7. Once connected, your Google calendar events will begin syncing — this usually takes about 5 minutes

Connecting an Outlook calendar

  1. In the Greenlight app, go to the "More" dashboard and tap "Calendar"
  2. Tap the Settings gear
  3. Tap Outlook
  4. A code will appear on screen — copy it
  5. Tap "Sign in" to open Microsoft's sign-in page
  6. Sign in with your Microsoft account and enter the code when prompted
  7. Once connected, your Outlook calendar events will begin syncing — this usually takes about 5 minutes

Connecting an iCloud calendar

iCloud calendars require an app-specific password — not your regular Apple ID password. Your regular Apple ID password will not work for third-party apps like Greenlight.

Before you create an app-specific password, make sure Two-Factor Authentication is enabled on your Apple account. You can check this by going to appleid.apple.com > Sign-In and Security > Two-Factor Authentication.

To generate an app-specific password:

  1. Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in
  2. Go to Sign-In and Security > App-Specific Passwords
  3. Tap "+" or "Generate an app-specific password"
  4. Label it "Greenlight" and tap "Create" — confirm your Apple ID password if prompted
  5. Copy the password when it appears (you won't be able to see it again after leaving this screen)
  6. Use this password (not your Apple ID password) when connecting your iCloud calendar in the Greenlight app

With your app-specific password ready, follow the steps below to connect your iCloud calendar on your Greenlight Calendar:

  1. In the Greenlight app, go to the "More" dashboard and tap "Calendar"
  2. Tap the Settings gear
  3. Tap iCloud
  4. Navigate through the prompts and enter your Apple ID email address
  5. Enter the app-specific password you just created
  6. Tap "Sign in"
  7. Select the calendars you'd like to sync and tap “Save
  8. For your active calendar(s), you can click into each one to customize the following information, then tap "Save"

Good to know: If your iCloud calendar won't connect, the most common cause is using your regular Apple ID password instead of an app-specific password. Head to appleid.apple.com to generate one and try again.

How to add another calendar

You can connect more than one calendar account at any time — mix and match Google, Outlook and iCloud accounts to get everyone's schedule in one place!

  1. Go to More > Calendar
  2. Tap the Settings gear
  3. Select your calendar type and sign in with your account

How to remove a calendar or an account

  1. Go to More > Calendar
  2. Tap the Settings gear
  3. Tap the account and then calendar you'd like to remove
  4. Tap "Remove calendar" or "Remove account" to unlink it entirely
  5. Confirm when prompted

All events from that calendar/account will be removed from the Greenlight app right away.

Who can view the calendar?

All family members connected to your Greenlight account can view the shared family calendar. Parents and approvers can add and manage events.

Good to know: Your calendar is read-only when your device is offline. Events already synced will still be visible, but you won't be able to make changes without an internet connection.
