The Family Hub calendar brings your household's schedules together in one shared view. Whether you're managing school events, work meetings, sports practice, or family dinners, everything appears in one easy-to-read place — synced and visible for the whole family right on your Hub!
Anyone in the family can view the calendar on the Family Hub but creating, editing, or deleting events requires the parent's admin PIN.

What calendar types can I link?
You can connect calendars from:
- Outlook / Microsoft
- iCloud
Your Hub also includes built-in Holiday calendars — add U.S. federal holidays and holidays for major religious traditions without connecting an external account! See How do I add Holiday calendars? below.
Connecting your first calendar
The setup steps vary slightly depending on your calendar provider. Find your calendar type below and follow the steps.
Google or Outlook
- On your Hub, tap the calendar icon
to open the Calendar page
- Tap "Connect calendars"
- Tap "Google" or "Outlook / Microsoft" from the provider list
- You'll be asked for your admin PIN — enter it to continue
- Your Hub will display a QR code and a device code on screen
- Scan the QR code with your phone, then enter the device code when prompted on your mobile device
- Sign in to your Google or Microsoft account on your phone and “Allow” Greenlight to access your Google or Microsoft
- Once signed in and permission is granted, your Hub will ask you to "Select calendars to sync". The screen will list all the calendars from that account so you can select the ones you'd like to appear on your Hub, then tap "Save"
- For your active calendar(s), you can click into each one to customize the following information, then tap "Save":
- Calendar name
- Which family members this calendar applies to
- The color that those calendar events will display as within your Calendar views — you can choose from Red, Orange, Yellow, Lime, Green, Teal, Blue, Purple, Pink, or Grey
- Whether this should be your default calendar
- Smart Assign — this feature is on by default, and lets your Hub automatically suggest which family member each event is relevant to and will organize your calendar(s) accordingly
- Your Hub confirms "Calendars added to your Family Hub" — tap "Done"!
Important: Once the sign-in screen opens, there's no way to back out or cancel. If you need to stop, complete the sign-in first — or restart the Hub app to start over.
iCloud
Before you can sync your iCloud calendar, you'll need to create an app-specific password in your Apple account. This is a special password that's separate from your regular Apple ID login. If you don’t have one yet, don't worry, it only takes a minute to set up!
First, you’ll want to make sure that your iCloud account is ready. You can follow the steps below (same as the steps that will be displayed on your Family Hub) before we walk you through setting up your app-specific password.
- On your iPhone tap the “Settings” app
- Tap your name at the top of the settings screen
- Tap "Sign-In and Security"
- Tap "Two-Factor Authentication"
- Tap the mobile device you’re using if you see it in that list or tap “Add a Trusted Phone Number” to enter in your phone number
Once that’s all set, follow the steps below to create an app-specific password:
- On your iPhone or computer, go to appleid.apple.com and “Sign in” using your Apple Account log in information (email/phone number + password)
- Under "Sign-In and Security" tap "App-Specific Passwords"
- Tap the "+" icon or tap “Generate an app-specific password”
- Enter "Greenlight" as the app label
- Tap "Create" and confirm your Apple ID password if asked and tap “Continue”
- When your app-specific password generates, make sure to copy it because you won't be able to see it again after leaving this screen
With your app-specific password ready, follow the steps below to connect your iCloud calendar on your Family Hub:
- On your Hub, tap the calendar icon
from the navigation bar to open the Calendar page
- Tap the settings gear at the top of your calendar
- Tap "iCloud" to add a new account
- Enter your admin PIN
- Navigate through the prompts and enter your Apple ID email address
- Enter the app-specific password you just created
- Tap "Sign in"
- Select the calendars you'd like to sync and tap “Save”
- For your active calendar(s), you can click into each one to customize the following information, then tap "Save":
- Calendar name
- Which family members this calendar applies to
- The color that those calendar events will display as within your Calendar views — you can choose from Red, Orange, Yellow, Lime, Green, Teal, Blue, Purple, Pink, or Grey
- Whether this will be your default calendar (you can only choose one)
- Smart Assign — this feature is on by default, and lets your Hub automatically suggest which family member each event is relevant to, and will organize your calendar(s) accordingly
- Once connected, your iCloud calendars will appear on your Hub!
Good to know: If your iCloud calendar won't connect, the most common cause is using your regular Apple ID password instead of an app-specific password. Head to appleid.apple.com to generate one and try again.

What is Smart Assign?
Smart Assign automatically assigns family members to calendar events based on the event’s content and your family's schedule. It's on by default for every connected calendar, and only runs on events synced from your connected calendars — events you create directly on your Family Hub are never auto-tagged. If you’d like to toggle this feature off for any of your calendars you can at any time!
When Smart Assign has suggestions ready, you will see a red dot on the settings gear of your Calendar page. Here's how to review and apply them:
- Tap the settings gear
- Tap “Start” on the “New smart assign suggestions” banner
- A panel opens showing how many events Smart Assign has suggestions for
- Tap "Update all" (or “Decline” to deny the suggestions)
- Confirm your admin PIN
- Smart Assign will apply its suggestions if you accept them. Tap "Done" when finished!
