If you’ve decided to close your Greenlight account, you can do it directly in the app or contact our support team for help.

Only the Primary Accountholder can close a Greenlight account.
How to close your account in the Greenlight app
- Open the Greenlight app
- Tap the Settings gear in the top-right corner of your dashboard
- Tap "Account"
- Scroll down and tap "Close account"
How do I know my account is closed?
After completing the account closure steps, you’ll see a confirmation screen that says “Your account is inactive.”
What happens after you close your account
Once your account is closed:
- Your family’s app and debit card access will end immediately
- You can keep or safely destroy your Greenlight debit cards
- Any investments will be sold at the current market price
- Any remaining balance will be refunded within 5–7 business days
How your investments are handled when you close your account
When an account is closed, any investments will be sold at the current market value.
If the market is closed when you request account closure, the investments will be sold the next business day when the market opens. Please keep in mind that prices may be higher or lower than the previous closing price.
What happens if money is left in a closed account?
If your Greenlight account is closed while money is still sitting in your Greenlight Wallet, we will always attempt to refund those funds back to you directly!
If we’re unable to refund them back to you for any reason, we’re required by law to send those funds to your state’s unclaimed property office. This process is called escheatment, and it’s designed to keep your money safe until you claim it.

Is there a fee to close my account?
No. You can close your Greenlight account at any time, and there are no fees or long-term contracts required.

If you just want to move money back to your funding source on file, you may be able to transfer funds from the app.
