Seeing a pending transaction and wondering if you can cancel it?
If you see a charge marked as pending, it means the transaction has been authorized by the merchant but hasn’t fully settled yet. At this stage, Greenlight can’t cancel the transaction directly.
Here’s what to do next.
If the transaction is still pending
If the charge is pending and you’d like to stop it:
- Contact the merchant directly
- Ask if they can cancel or reverse the authorization
Only the merchant can cancel a transaction before it settles. In many cases, pending charges resolve on their own if they are authorized, or settle within 1–3 business days.
If the transaction has settled and looks authorized
Once a charge fully posts to your account, it can no longer be canceled by the merchant. Instead, you will want to contact the merchant directly and return the purchased goods instead to receive a refund.
If the transaction has settled and:
- The amount is incorrect
- You were charged twice
- You don’t recognize the purchase
You’ll need to file a dispute instead.
If the pending charge is unauthorized
If you don’t recognize a pending transaction and your family’s account, you should file a dispute for the charge as soon as possible so we can review it.
Please fill out this form to submit your dispute request or send us a text to 404-974-3024 and our team will be able to file your dispute as soon as the transaction has settled.
