Are chores and allowances connected?

We understand that every family does allowance differently. With Greenlight, chores can be directly tied to the payout of allowance — or not. Parents can choose a standard, flat-rate allowance or connect allowance to chores. Parents choose their preference, and Greenlight will calculate the payout.

Once you've set up an allowance and chores for your child, here’s how to connect allowance to chores:

  1. Navigate to your child tab.
  2. Tap on the Allowance tile.
  3. Tap on the pencil icon located to the right of your allowance amount.
  4. Tap “Connect to chores.”
  5. Use the toggle to “Pay based on chores.”
  6. Select your desired payout setting.

If you select “Partial payments,” your child will be paid a percentage of allowance equal to the percentage of their completed chores. If you select “All or nothing,” your child will be paid their allowance only if 100% of chores are completed by the allowance payout date. Note: this will only apply to chores within this allowance cycle. Jobs have individual payouts and do not count towards allowance.

No matter which allowance setting you choose, Greenlight will send you a notification the day before allowance is due and you can always choose to pause allowance from the Allowance page.

To pause an allowance for one of your children, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to your child's dashboard.
  2. Tap on the Allowance tile.
  3. Use the toggle to turn allowance off.
